Meet Nancy
Pastor, Storyteller, Author of The Grapefruit Dish - and Mother Christmas
I love Christmas, family, and story-telling, and I love being called “Mother Christmas“ by my children and grandchildren. I also enjoy sharing these passions beyond my family - through workshops on creating a joy-filled Christmas and with the many congregations I have served over my 5+ decades in ordained ministry.
After years of trying to create the perfect holiday and seeing others attempt the same, I began to realize that the moments we remember most about Christmas are often the imperfect ones. That is why I first wrote “The Grapefruit Dish” essays. They were reflections for the December issue of a church newsletter.
Throughout the year, I live with my husband, Joe, our two dogs, and over 60,000 honey bees from my hobby apiary at Little Farm in Naples, Maine. In addition to writing and beekeeping, Joe and I tap 75 maple trees and make maple syrup. I also tend our large vegetable garden as well as several perennial beds.
Every year on December 1st, however, I become “Mother Christmas,” making wreaths, baking cookies, and each day decorating the house more and more. I strive for warmth, comfort, meaning, and fond memories for those who journey to Little Farm at Christmastime.
